A readable playlist with no entries is different from a file the reader cannot parse. An empty catalogue can reflect source configuration, account access or filtering. A parsing failure points toward the returned format or damaged text. Read the player’s import result before treating both symptoms as the same problem.
Look for import evidence
Some readers report zero channels after a successful fetch; others show a download or format error. Those outcomes identify different stages. Keep the exact message rather than reducing every failure to “nothing works.”
Review local filters
A hidden category, search term or favorites-only view can make a populated list look empty. Clear the view filter before replacing the source. Do not assume the service removed every channel because the current screen has no results.
Request the right correction
For a genuine zero-entry response, ask support to inspect the account catalogue and supplied source. For malformed text, provide the response type and error. In either case, keep the full credential-bearing URL private.
A practical sequence
- Record the fetch and import status.
- Clear local browsing filters.
- Describe whether the source is empty or unreadable.
An example
A reader that imports zero entries from a valid header-only file has reached a different stage from one that receives an HTML sign-in page and rejects the format.
Questions about this topic
Does a blank favorites view prove the playlist is empty?
No. It can simply contain no saved favorites.
Should I change the decoder for zero imported channels?
No. Decoding begins after an actual media item is selected.
