A notification preview can display account links, activation details or support messages on a screen other people can see. Review the messaging and device notification settings when using a shared phone, tablet or television. Protecting the chat itself does not automatically hide its content from lock-screen previews.
Identify where previews appear
A phone, linked desktop app and wearable can each display the same message. Review the actual devices linked to the account rather than changing one screen and assuming all others are covered.
Choose a suitable preview setting
Platforms can offer options to hide sensitive content or show notifications only after unlocking. Use the current device documentation. Keep important security alerts visible enough that you do not miss unexpected sign-in activity.
Avoid sending secrets unnecessarily
Reducing preview exposure is useful, but the best support message often does not need a password in the first place. Use nonsecret references and redacted evidence whenever they can solve the task.
A practical sequence
- Review previews on the phone and linked devices.
- Hide sensitive content through supported settings.
- Keep routine support messages free of unnecessary secrets.
An example
A private chat can still show a full playlist link in a desktop notification while the computer is visible to others. The preview is another place to review.
