Diagnostic logs can contain full request URLs, account names, tokens and device information. Before sending a log, use the player’s supported export option and review what it includes. Share only the relevant time window through a verified private route rather than posting an unfiltered archive publicly.
Find the useful event window
A short period around the failure is easier to inspect than a week of unrelated activity. Note the local time and timezone. Keep the exact error text while removing unrelated viewing history and account secrets.
Redact consistently
Replace the same account or token with the same neutral label throughout the sample. That preserves relationships without exposing the original value. Do not remove only the first occurrence; credentials can appear repeatedly in retries or redirects.
Respect the recipient’s need
A volunteer forum may need only an error code and a synthetic URL structure. The service may need an account reference through private support. Neither case justifies publishing every file from the device.
A practical sequence
- Limit the export to the relevant event where possible.
- Remove credentials and unnecessary personal data.
- Send the smallest useful sample through a verified route.
An example
A failed request line can reveal a password embedded in a stream path. Redacting only a separate password field elsewhere in the log leaves that exposure intact.
Questions about this topic
Are logs automatically anonymous?
No. They can contain sensitive account and device data.
Should I delete the error code while redacting?
Keep nonsecret diagnostic detail that explains the failure.
